FFS, tetanus boosters are killer. Not to worry you, but I actually injured my arm from holding it funny because it hurt to use for days after the injection. The site to this day has a funny little knot in it that hurts to push on (as do most funny bumps on bodies if you push hard enough).

Definitely...If you haven't already, make copies of your passport, travelers cheques and credit cards if you are using any of them and keep them somewhere safe. Also, what I just did for my trip is-use a folder and print out all your confirmations and have them at hand for proof of them, I also made a digital copies of all my confirmations on my thumbdrive. You should call the airline though and ask for an emailed confirmation on skype or something. It should be cheap if you prepay maybe $3 on it. Long enough for you to ask. I just paid a little over a $1 for a 20 min call to my parents. Planning is really important. While I do suggest having a calmness about you before & whilst traveling, you also should be really vigilant and prepare in a paranoid sort of sense if you know what I mean--just so you know you'll be okay if anything happens.

I want my MD/PhD so I can introduce myself of "Dr. Dr. Krueger" in bars. Oh, and the whole furthering science/clinical care helping people thing too. Maybe I could go as "Dr. Krueger, squared."

We should have Dr. parties once we get ours! We'll wear our PhD tams and sing karaoke.

Being a world class traveler, you can take my expert advice on matters such as these.
Your research will dull your mind and leave you asking more questions in which you will not have the time to find the answers to. Suggestion: party. hard.

Yes, that's right... the best conversations about how local people really feel about their oppression from government or their inadequate family comes out while they are enjoying a few tasty beverages in a room with others enjoying tasty beverages dancing to loud music. Drugs. What?

I hope your adventures take you to new heights. Literally. If you don't come back with pictures of Machu Picchu or videos of drunk locals spilling the beans....you didn't get the whole story.

Love, Peace, and motor oil.

"One thing that I’ve learned from studying Anthropology is how little I actually know about the vastness of the world. Geertz was right in stating that in order to fully understand the cultural interactions of all societies you have to first understand each one individually, on the micro, emic level."

I totally agree. That's the only way you really can learn what life is like. I'm really excited for you!
